Hidden within rolling hills and valleys, West Down
is secluded yet deceptively close to all of North Devons
local amenities.
Close By is Braunton, a convenient
centre for touring North Devon, and just 5 miles further
is the areas largest town Barnstaple. A 10 minute drive
to the north leads to the harbour side town of Ilfracombe.
Ideal for walking and touring, the town also offers
a good variety of shops and facilities including the
landmark theatre. From the harbour a short boat ride
unveils some dramatic coastline. A longer ride can Lundy
island. Further around the coast, set in Fuchsia Valley,
is the tiny village of Lee, famous for its muffin and
tea room.
The award winning beach of Hele Bay offers safe bathing in a small cove within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beach offers sandy and shingle patches, rock pools and welcomes dogs. Sailing, Surfing, Windsurfing, Fishing etc are all popular activities at Hele. Hele Bay is set in a ‘Coastal Preservation’ area adjacent to Hilsborough ‘Nature Reserve’. This beach has previously won awards for ‘Clean BathingWater & GoodBeach Management’. The latest been in 2006. Other activities within easy walking distance of Hele Bay include 18 hole golf course, indoor swimming pool and South West Coastal Path. Within approx 5 minutes drive is WatermouthBay and the popular ‘WatermouthCastle.’
