Spend Easter in Beautiful North Devon

Spend Easter in Beautiful North Devon

posted to North Devon Blog

In North Devon, it has probably been one of the warmest winters that we have had for a while, with the sea temperature not dropping below a balmy (!) 9 degrees celsius (it usually drops down to around 7, or 8).

The grass has remained green, creating great conditions for the newly arrived lambs. Trees and shrubs are budding early, many having popped already, so we are seeing an array of beautiful colours and scents proliferate the already stunning countryside. Each day the bird songs emanating from wooded areas and forests grow louder and more beautiful.

There are many ways to enjoy and take advantage of spring in North Devon, one of the best times of the year to experience this stunning area.

Book a horse ride and, depending on your experience, gallop along Woolacombe beach, or take in the scenery at a more leisurely pace along one of the paths, passing sweet smelling spring gorse.

You can hire surf equipment at Saunton Beach, and learn to surf at one of the best beginners beaches in the area, because of it’s slow, sloping waves. There are also several surf schools to choose from, to help you along your way to surfing stardom! Order a post-surf hot chocolate at the Beachside Grill and watch the sun set into the cool, spring Atlantic.

Take in the beautiful scenery whilst playing golf at Ilfracombe golf course, with views out over the Bristol Channel and set in stunning countryside, near Hele Bay, and just short of Watermouh Cove.

By car, foot, or bike, there is plenty to explore in North Devon. You could drive to Exmoor and then walk one of the many trails, taking you deep into the moor, passing crystal clear rivers and hidden valleys. Marvel at the beautiful old cottages and hamlets. Or, bring the bike and cruise the old lanes and paths at your own leisure.

For the more leisurely, explore the rock pools at Lee Bay, or, find a spot sheltered from the spring breeze and read a good book, with the glow of the spring sun keeping you warm. Alternatively, take in the view from one of the many cafes and restaurants in Woolacombe, or Ilfracombe and watch as the world goes by.
